Violet Waters is a UK-based artist from West Yorkshire and the creator behind Violet Waters Designs, where folklore, gothic romance, and dreamlike landscapes intertwine. Working primarily in watercolours and acrylics, she creates atmospheric worlds that exist somewhere between dreams and nightmares, mist-covered forests, haunted coastlines, abandoned castles, and moonlit seas that invite viewers to lose themselves in the story and create their own interpretive narratives.
Inspired by dark fairytales, classic horror, nature, folklore, and the emotional power of landscapes, Violet’s work explores themes of grief, resilience, transformation, and hope. Rather than illustrating specific narratives, each painting is designed to evoke a feeling, allowing viewers to create their own interpretations and connections.
Violet completed a degree in Psychology and Sociology in 2025, and her interest in people, emotion, identity, and the ways we make sense of the world continues to influence her creative work. Her dissertation explored female sexual agency within traditional fairytales and their modern iterations, allowing her to delve deeply into the darker, often overlooked side of these stories and the ways they have evolved over time. This fascination with fairytales, their beauty, darkness, symbolism, and hidden meanings, continues to inspire her art.
After also losing her mum in 2025, Violet began to reflect deeply on life, creativity, and the importance of pursuing the things that truly matter to her. The experience ultimately strengthened her decision to dedicate herself to art and follow the dreams she had long put aside. After years of creating alongside everyday life, Violet is now building her artistic career, sharing original paintings, prints, diamond art, and creative workshops. She believes that art has the ability to offer moments of stillness, wonder, connection, and escapism in an increasingly busy world.
When she’s not painting, Violet can usually be found wandering woodland paths, collecting inspiration from dramatic coastlines, reading gothic literature, spending time with her young son and two black cats Ziggy and Binx, or dreaming up her next enchanted landscape.
